Why did you chose to become a judge for the British Legal Technology Awards 2019?
When I look at why the UK attracts more than twice the investment in tech than any other European country, I realise that this is for many reasons including the talent pool and the incredible heritage we have for innovation. But perhaps the biggest is that our legal framework is the most trusted in the world. For me that makes legal tech an incredible opportunity to get involved in.
What Key Advice Would you Give to a Company Entering the Awards?
My advice would be to make sure they are solving problems that really matter. Tech can take you in many different directions and it is not always the big tech ideas that take off. Sometimes the smallest of ideas can make the biggest of differences.
What Makes an Entry Stand Out for you?
Usually it is the people behind the entry that breathe life into the vision and solution.
What in your Opinion Elevates an Entrant to Become a Winner?
Without question, the ability to articulate the problem they are solving is usually the gap in even the most sophisticated of entries. I believe that a winning entry needs to include both the ‘hurt’ AND the ‘rescue’ strategy. Solving the right problem really matters.
